EMC Testing

What Is CISPR 25? Preparing for Automotive EMC Testing

CISPR 25 testing, which makes sure in-vehicle electronics don't disturb the radio, GPS and other receivers, and the chamber it requires.

What Does CISPR 25 Measure?

CISPR 25 aims to keep interference emitted by in-vehicle electronics from disturbing the vehicle's receivers (radio, GPS, mobile communication).

The test is performed by measuring with antennas the interference a part emits while it runs on a table.

Which Chamber Do You Need?

CISPR 25 tests are performed in a shielded chamber with absorber-lined interior surfaces. The chamber size, test table and antenna distance must comply with the standard.

High-voltage supply and special filters for electric vehicle components are also included in the chamber.

The Advantage of In-House Testing

Tests must be repeated for every new part revision. With your own chamber you spread these tests across development and arrive at certification ready.

The ISO 11452 series for immunity testing can be planned in the same chamber.

The Electric Vehicle Effect

Electric vehicles contain strong noise sources such as the high-voltage battery, inverter and charger. Testing these components requires high-voltage supply and safety measures in the chamber.

On the charging side, charger EMC tests also apply. For component testing, see the different chamber sizes on our CISPR 25 automotive chamber page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between CISPR 25 and CISPR 12?

CISPR 25 protects the vehicle's own receivers and covers component and in-vehicle measurements; CISPR 12 limits the noise a vehicle emits outward.

How large must a component test chamber be?

Depending on the test table and antenna distance, a compact chamber is often enough.

Do carmakers add their own requirements?

Yes. Most vehicle manufacturers apply their own company standards in addition to CISPR 25.
