Why is it needed?

In a Military Project, the Test Chamber Sets the Schedule.

Before going into the field, a defense product must prove both that it won't disturb other equipment and that it can withstand strong signals. These tests are carried out in special chambers that no outside signal can enter and where internal reflections are absorbed.

Waiting in an external lab's queue can extend the project schedule by months. With your own test chamber you run pre-tests during development and arrive at final testing ready.

In areas processing classified information the risk is different: weak signals emitted by computers and displays can be picked up from outside. TEMPEST rooms cut off this leakage at the room level.

Product Qualification

MIL-STD-461 tests of radar, communication and electronic warfare equipment.

Confidential Meetings and Processing

TEMPEST rooms for command centers and offices that process classified information.

Critical Facility Protection

Protecting command facilities against pulses.

Shielded Space in the Field

Solutions

Rooms Used in the Defense Industry

MIL-STD-461 Chamber

Shielded, absorber-lined chamber for emission and immunity testing of military equipment.

TEMPEST Room

Room with filtered lines that prevents information leaking from computers and screens.

Standards

Which Standards Do We Build To?

The room is designed to the standard your product or facility must meet and is tested against that standard at handover.

  • Your testing and usage needs are defined during the site survey
  • A test report is provided at handover
  • Annual maintenance and re-testing are available
  • MIL-STD-461G

The US Department of Defense standard for electromagnetic emission and immunity testing of military equipment.

  • RTCA DO-160

Defines environmental and electromagnetic tests for equipment used on aircraft.

  • NATO SDIP-27

Sets device levels against information theft through signals leaking from equipment (TEMPEST).

  • NATO SDIP-29

Defines how facilities and rooms processing classified information should be built to TEMPEST requirements.

  • MIL-STD-188-125

Defines the protection of critical facilities against high-altitude electromagnetic pulse (HEMP).

How is chamber size determined for MIL-STD-461 tests?

The largest device to be tested, antenna distance and test table layout are assessed together. During the survey we take your equipment list and calculate the required internal size accordingly.

What is the difference between a TEMPEST room and a normal shielded room?

Both are signal-proof. In a TEMPEST room, power, data and ventilation lines are additionally fitted with special filters so information inside can't leak out through them, and zones are separated.

Can it be installed in an existing building?

Yes. The rooms consist of modular panels; the building's load capacity and door dimensions are checked during the survey.

What documents are provided at handover?

The room is measured to the relevant standard and delivered with a test report, bill of materials and maintenance instructions.
