What is a fully anechoic chamber (FAR)?

Free Space Within Four Walls

In a fully anechoic chamber all surfaces, including the floor, are covered with absorbers. With no reflections from any surface, the device is measured as if suspended in empty space.

Antenna gain, pattern performance and the over-the-air performance of wireless devices are measured in these chambers. Absorbers are chosen for the frequencies to be measured.

No Reflections

Measurement is as if in free space.

Broadband

Low to high frequency.

Repeatable

Every measurement gives the same result.

Flexible Use

Antenna and device testing together.

Options

Three Options for Your Needs

Let Us Help You Choose

Compact FAR

For small antennas and IoT.

Standard FAR

For antennas and wireless devices.

Compact Range

With reflector for large antennas.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Fully Anechoic Chambers (FAR)

PhoneWhatsApp

How is it different from a semi-anechoic chamber?

In a semi-anechoic chamber the floor is reflective. In a fully anechoic chamber the floor is also covered with absorbers and there are no reflections at all.

What determines the chamber size?

The lowest frequency to be measured and the antenna size; lower frequencies need a larger chamber and absorbers.

Can it be used for EMC testing?

It suits some emission tests. Most standard EMC tests are done in a semi-anechoic chamber.

Do you also install the measurement system?

We plan the positioner, antenna mast and cable penetrations together with the chamber.
