Why Regular Maintenance?
A shielded room keeps the performance measured on handover day only if it is maintained. Each time the door opens and closes, gaskets wear a little, hinges loosen over time and dirty contact surfaces lose conductivity.
These changes progress slowly and go unnoticed by users. The problem usually surfaces in a measurement or when an unexpected signal is detected in the room. Regular maintenance prevents these surprises.
Daily and Weekly Checks
Users should close the door fully every time and make sure the lock mechanism seats completely. No cable or object should be trapped in the door threshold; a door left ajar makes all the room's shielding meaningless.
Weekly, door gaskets are checked for visible crushing, breakage or dirt. Checking whether devices in the room pick up a mobile network is also a simple but effective first check.
Monthly and Annual Checks
Monthly, door hinges and lock adjustment are checked, and gasket contact surfaces are cleaned with suitable material. Dust filters in front of the honeycomb vents are replaced and power filter connections are reviewed.
Once a year, a shielding measurement should be performed by a specialist team. The measurement is repeated at the reference points from handover and the result is compared with the previous report.
Keep a Maintenance Log
Recording the date of each check, who did it and any problems found in a simple log makes audits and warranty processes easier. For accredited laboratories, this record is mandatory.
